5 Gin-based Cocktails Beyond Gin & Tonic

When talking about Gin-based cocktails, the most common ones are the famous Gin & Tonic and the Martini. While these drinks are classics, and for very good reasons, there are times when your taste buds might be asking for something (new and) different to quench your thirst. Here are 5 more cocktails featuring our beloved Gin:

Negroni

The perfect pre-dinner drink or one to sip whilst watching the sunset, the Negroni is a classic Gin cocktail you’re sure to enjoy. It calls for equal parts of your favorite Gin, Sweet Vermouth and Campari and is then topped with a twist of orange peel (don’t forget the orange peel!). At first, it may be a bit bitter, for some, when tasting it for the first time; but be sure to try it more than once and it will quickly become one of your go-to drinks. If you still can’t get over the bitterness, then play around with the versatile recipe to balance the cocktail more to your liking.

  • 1 oz Gin

  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth

  • 1 oz Campari

  • Garnish: Orange Twist

Gimlet

With a history of helping sailors get over scurvy, the Gimlet is a great way to combine citrus (and Vitamin C) with Gin. Try out this uncomplicated and refreshing drink!

  • 2 ½ oz Gin

  • ½ Lime Juice

  • ½ Simply Syrup

  • Garnish: Lime Wheel

Red Snapper

While most of you may not have heard of the Red Snapper, most are already familiar with this drink, the cousin of the Bloody Mary. If you’ve ever thought about having gin with your breakfast or brunch, then now you have the chance to give it a try. Swap out the vodka in your Bloody Mary for your favorite gin, and you’ll be having a Red Snapper. Who would have thought!

  • Your favorite Bloody Mary base (minus the Vodka)

  • 2 oz Gin (instead of Vodka)

Tom Collins

Part of the family of “Collins” drinks, the Tom Collins is a refreshing Gin cocktail that’s over a century old. Be sure to choose one of your better Gins to mix up this cocktail with as the Gin flavor will shine through this effortless refresher.

  • 2 oz Gin

  • 1 oz lemon juice

  • ½ oz simple syrup

  • Club Soda to Top

  • Garnish: Lemon Wheel

French 75

Champagne, who doesn’t love it. We can say the same for Gin. So how about we put the two together in a cocktail and call it the French 75. Easy as that!

  • ½ oz lemon juice

  • ½ oz simple syrup

  • 1 oz Gin

  • 3 oz Champagne

  • Garnish: Lemon Twist

Enjoy your drinks! Cheers!
